New lyrics: Antithesis

I'm sat in a small town in North Lanarkshire. It's cold, and I still have a short while yet to wait until I need to be at the next job. My hands are cold and I'm finding this hard to write on my Blackberry. My hair is all over the place due to furious winds and rain. It has put me in a slightly fowl mood.

I had began to write some lyrics yesterday that I didn't finish. I left them because I didn't know what to do with them. It was a general set of lyrics, about different things. I was going for a kind of 'Fitter Happier' by Radiohead, type of song. Wanted it to be similar, even to go as far as it is all spoken, but not by one voice, but by cut up voices and audio. The lyrics were about different things: famine, war, social problems, greed of bankers, mps, and essentially just the divide between people.

Today as I sat here I began chopping the lyrics up and finishing them. I looked for a name. Something to sum up the fact that larger the song is about contrasts. So I found it: 'Antithesis'. I made the song, so that it is about the contrasts in the world, of the world. Where some people get stinking rich; and other struggle and die. Where, we, the 'first' world, like to neglect and pretend the 'third' world have no problems. That if we can't see it, it doesn't happen. That you not getting the latest phone, or piece of clothing is a big disaster; when others, who don't have food all day, go by, without a complaint. The song is short and general. I like the sentiments behind it, and was to make this song really well done when made into music.

Antithesis

We live in a world,
Where the undercurrant is forgotten,
What you can't see, won't hurt you,

Where you love thy neighbour,
Until the greed is all consuming,
Where the fat cats get bonuses,
And the antithesis live on famine,

The young complain for more luxury,
And the blind man contemplates sight,

A quick feeling of liberation,
Gunned down by allied oppression,
A journey to the ends of the earth,
And the antithesis live on famine,

With cupped hands they sit like buddha on the pavement,
You pass chirping on your phone, glaring in disgust,

Everyone needs someone,
Getting married? Getting divorced?
A kid left in a broken home,
A candidate for community service,

We live in a world,
Where the undercurrant is forgotten,
Does the end justifies the means?
And the antithesis live on famine,

Written 6 and 7 of September 2011. Part on the coach from Glasgow to Edinburgh, and in a town in North Lanarkshire.

I intend to tackle the social theme of beauty, and surgery. The idea of hiding yourself under a facade, making you more acceptable. I intend to. We'll see,

Watch this space,
